Clickochet(tm) -

Frequently Asked Questions

What's Clickochet?

Clickochet is an ad-space trading network. You are both the Publisher and the Advertiser. Simply put, you show member's ads on your website and they'll show your ads on theirs.

And it's not typically 1-for-1, often it's better. Give one - get a few.

Who is it for?

Clickochet is for anyone who wants to drive traffic to their website (ok, that sort of includes 'everyone' doesn't it). Then, it's for people with websites that want to trade ad-space for ad-space. To use their traffic to create more traffic.

There are no minimums. No site is too small. No site is too big.

Can I run Clickochet Ads alongside ads from other networks?

Yes. The only guideline is that you should attempt to keep website and ad placement quality high. In addition, Clickochet allows you to "share space" with other ad networks (or even your own ad-hoc image ads). Simply click "External Ads" in the get-the-code page.

How do I sign up?

Actually, if you have a Twitter, Google, or Facebook account, you're already signed up! Just click the sign-in button in the upper right of the page. These services then verify you are you, we are us, and tells us you're authorized.

Clickochet is first and foremost a community of people showing each other's ads. Allowing sign-ups through existing social systems enhances that sense of community. And of course, your privacy is very important to us. We do not have access to any of your private information in any third-party service (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, etc). Please read our Privacy Policy for further information on our commitment to your privacy.

Is the service really free?

Clickochet is free to sign-up and use. Its a trading network, you trade ad-space to get ad-space.

How do I create my ads?

Go to the dashboard and click the "Create an Ad" button. Fill out the appropriate fields and submit it. Note that all ads are subject to (computer and/or human) approval.

Where do I place the code?

Place the code in your web page within the <body> tag and near the top of the page for the most exposure. The better your placement, the more impression credits you'll get!

How do my ads get shown?

Assuming your ad is approved and you have a positive credit balance - your ads will start to show immediately across the network.

So I get an ad for each one I show?

That depends but you're likely to get more than 1-to-1. If you choose an ad-size that contains more than one ad for other community members, you'll likely get enough credits to gain more than one ad impression for yourself.

How does Clickochet make money?

Clickochet shows its own ads in some portion of total network impressions. The percentage is approximately 20% but can vary based on factors such as site quality, placement, etc.

Is this Ad Network "family safe" ?

All ad text, url destinations, and referers are constantly checked against up-to-date Internet blacklists. As per our Terms of Service, no site containing any material found to be offensive, obscene, pornographic, etc. is allowed within the network. Violations can result in account suspension.

What are 'impression credits'?

Impression Credits (often just "credits" for short) are a virtual currency earned by you showing ad impressions on your websites and spent by having your ads shown on other websites.

What are the 'External Ads' that Clickochet allows me to add?

The goal of Clickochet is for users to get traffic, but often it is advantageous to alternate between Clickochet ads and money-making ads from say Google or ValueClick. Clickochet allows you to enter the code for external ad networks and specify how often they should show as compared to Clickochet ads.

What are the 'External Ads' that are images?

Just like other ad network code (per the last answer), you can add an image banner and destination link to alternate with your Clickochet code. So for example, maybe you want to show Clickochet 20% of the time, Adsense 50% of the time, and a banner ad for your friend's gaming company the remaining 30% of the time.
And Clickochet will track impressions and click-throughs for you for all those ads!

How many credits can I earn?

The number you earn varies. To maximize the number of credits you earn per impression you should:

  • Show larger ads. Showing the largest ad could earn you enough credits to get 5 impressions of your own ad!
  • Give the ad prominent placement
  • Keep your ad quality high

Simply, show the ads like you'd like your ad to be shown and the credits will follow

How do you decide which ads get shown and how often?

Ads are targeted on several factors with the primary idea in mind to bring the most value to advertisers, publishers, and visitors to your site. Your ads will continue to show so long as you have a positive impression credit balance.

What should I title my ad?

Be descriptive, honest, and compelling.

Can I use impression credits I earn from one site on an ad I create for another site?

Absolutely. Definitely! You can earn impression credits any way you like pursuant to the Terms of Service. For example, maybe your blog gets thousands of viewers a day, but your woodworking shop website gets few hits if any. Great - show clickochet ads on your blog earning thousands of credits - and spend them by directing people to your woodworking shop!

Alternatively, maybe you're launching a website in a few months - you can "bank" impressions from your existing sites all to be used for your new site when you launch!

Can I specify where, when, and how often I want my ads to show?

You can limit your ads to showing on sites related to certain keywords and you can always pause ads.

Do you show image-based advertising?

Currently, only text-based advertising is available for members. Image-based is in the works however (so you may see them from time to time).

What are lifetime credits and debits? How are they different from credits and debits?

The number of impression credits you're account has earned and spent through it's lifetime.

What is Spend Ratio? How often does this update?

The spend ratio is the rate at which you spend credits compared to the rate at which you earn them. So if your spend ratio is 100, you're spending every credit you earn. At a spend ratio of 50, you're spending half of the credits you earn. Banking the rest for later!

My site doesn't get many/any impressions - can I participate?

Clickochet is an ad trading community, and keep in mind, there is no minimum. Even if you get a handful of impressions per day, you can convert those to many ad impressions per day to improve your traffic.

And stay tuned, in the future Clickochet may offer impressions credits for purchase providing an extremely low-cost method of site advertising.
